About Me & My Approach
Getting to know the person you’ll be working with
Sarah Chen, RCC, MA
Growing up, I witnessed first-hand how unaddressed mental health struggles can quietly erode someone’s sense of self, relationships, and joy in life. That lived experience — alongside years of rigorous formal training — is what drew me to counselling and continues to fuel my deep commitment to this work.
I completed my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at the University of British Columbia and have spent the last decade working with adults, youth, and families across Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. I now run a private practice serving clients in person in Vancouver and online throughout BC.
I believe in the inherent resilience of every person who reaches out. My job isn’t to fix you — because you aren’t broken. It’s to offer a compassionate, evidence-based space where you can reconnect with your own wisdom, process what’s weighing on you, and build lasting life skills.

Evidence-Based & Person-Centred
I draw from several well-researched therapeutic traditions and adapt each session to what works best for you as an individual.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT helps you identify and shift unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours. It’s practical, structured, and one of the most thoroughly evidence-backed approaches for anxiety, depression, and many other challenges.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Drawing from MBCT and mindfulness practices, I help you develop a kinder, more present relationship with your inner world — reducing emotional reactivity and building lasting resilience that stays with you.
Trauma-Informed Care
All my work is guided by trauma-informed principles. I prioritize safety, trust, collaboration, and empowerment above all else — always following your pace, never mine.
The Values That Guide My Practice
Compassion First
I approach every person and every session with genuine warmth, care, and curiosity — never judgment or assumption.
Confidentiality & Safety
Your privacy is sacred. Everything shared in our sessions stays between us, within the ethical and legal limits I am transparent about from day one.
Inclusivity & Belonging
I am committed to an affirming, culturally sensitive space for everyone, regardless of background, identity, orientation, or life experience.
Growth & Empowerment
The insights and tools you gain in counselling belong to you — forever. My goal is your lasting independence, not your ongoing reliance on me.
